Dear Editor,

Cats Killed! Reinbeck's City Hall has been back at it....trapping cats and having them euthanized at the Cedar Bend Humane Society in Waterloo. As usual, these traps are not checked every 2 hours and these cats sit in the traps with no food, water, litter box for hours and sometimes days. Somehow the City Administrator never seems to mention this in his letters out to the community. It's their little secret!!! So if your tame, collared, spayed/neutered, de-clawed cat gets outside, be prepared to have it disappear in City Hall's traps...never to be seen again as tame or feral, they are taken to the Cedar Bend Humane Society and euthanized. No pictures sent, nothing on the Reinbeck channel, just gone and killed!

This costs you, the taxpayer, a minimum of $100 in your tax $$ - $50 for Cedar Bend to euthanize the cat, a minimum of $50 for the City employee to be paid wages while driving to Cedar Bend and of course, the gas it takes to drive there and back.

Some folks at City Hall continue to be part of the problem, not the solution of feral cats. Proven solutions have been given to City Hall over and over and yet they continue to be part of the problem instead of the solution and refuse to be educated. You can continue to kill... and guess what, more will take their place. And we hear it over and over that the town folk don't like cats using their gardens and flower beds as litter boxes. Guess what, the cats would rather be indoors, fed and warm and not out desperately trying to survive. This is totally a human problem, not a cat problem. Until humans quit dumping their cats and all get spayed or neutered, feral cat populations will continue. Also don't want to hear that cats kill birdswell that's what cats do since they can't run to the local grocery store and pickup some kibble. Pesticides, chemicals, your house windows and cars kill more birds than any cat. So get over it people, give them a place to get out of the weather, provide them food, water and shelter, have the cat spayed or neutered and be glad they're around and keeping mice out of your home. And remember, when one leaves, another will take it's killing is not the solution!

Do the compassionate thing and be a smarter human, SPAY or NEUTER and BE PART OF THE SOLUTION, NOT THE PROBLEM!!
