Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) will be celebrating National Nursing Home Week May 12 - 18, 2013, in conjunction with National Hospital Week.
In 1967, the American Health Care Association organized and began promoting one week each year to recognize Nursing Home facilities. The purpose was to acknowledge the value and worth of each senior needing this level of care, along with the knowledgeable and caring staff.
Linda Larson, Long Term Care (LTC) Director said, "In the GCMH Long Term Care, it is staff that creates the Quality of Life for our residents. It is very true that it takes special person to work in a nursing home. It takes someone who cares about people, especially our older generation."
Linda Larson, Long Term Care Director at Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Larson added, "Each resident has so much to share and give. It is an honor to get to know each resident, hear about the things that make them special, what they have accomplished, what they are proud of, and what they continue to get excited about."
Each year, on this second week of May, extra time is taken to recognize and honor GCMH LTC residents and staff for everything they accomplish each day. A theme is chosen and special events are planned. This year's theme at GCMH LTC is "A Garden Party".
