Friday, May 3, marked the day of large group music contest. The contest took place at Grundy Center High School. Gladbrook-Reinbeck took two choirs to the contest: the mixed choir and treble choir. Both choirs were directed by Mrs. Amanda Bridges and accompanied by Cherrie Eckhoff. In large music contest, a choir performs for three judges. While the choir sings, the judges document their comments with an audio-recording device. Based on points awarded for various aspects of the choir's performance, the choir receives a rating. The average of the three judges ratings gives the choirs overall rating.
The first to perform was the treble choir. The treble choir is made up of freshman and sophomore girls in choir. Girls choir received a II rating from all three of their judges. One of II's they received was only a few points away from being a I rating. Next to perform was the mixed choir made up of all boys in choir and junior and senior girls. They received two I's and a II, for an overall I rating. This is the first I rating received by a GR choir in ten years. This shows that our music program is headed in a positive direction. The choirs also receive all of the feedback audio of their judges comments. This way, the choirs can listen to their judges' feedback and use it to improve themselves even more. With this exciting result to end the school year, it will be interesting to see what kind of musical excellence next year will bring for our music program.
