First Lady, Christie Vilsack, delivers book, Bells Goes to the Fair by Iowa Author Susan Knapp to the kindergartners.

Some changes have been made at Elmwood Park playground. Several pieces of unsafe playground equipment has been removed.

Jason Staker and Laura Paine both seniors at G-R, have each been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Grand Lodge of Iowa.

Mindi Wical and Gary Daub were married March 22 in Loveland, Colo.

Matthew Steimel & Tessa Reeves are parents of a daughter born April 16.

Lynette Berch, 32, Cylinder, died April 25 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.

Irene Hass Kehoe, 78, Reinbeck, died May 3 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

Henrietta Niehaus, 94, Grundy Center, died April 28 at the Grundy Co., Memorial Hospital long-term care unit.

Wellsburg Fire Dept. held an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on May 3 with 350 people attending.

Blood Center of Iowa opened their doors to a new donor site at 3254 Kimball Ave. in Waterloo.

MAY, 1983

Merlin Adair retires from Parkview board and is replaced by Dean Larsen.

American Legion send three Reinbeck boys to State-Tony Diehm, Eric Junge and Chris Petersen.

Clarice Delamore, 68, died May 2 at Allen Hospital.

Frieda Wrage, 99, died May 6 at Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Tama.

Dorothy Frankel, 68, died May 7 in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Ruth Albright, 72, Grundy Center, died May 5 at Allen Hospital.

Kori Petersen & Don Hatch were married on Feb. 13 at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck.

MAY 24, 1983

Fifty-one will graduate from Reinbeck Community School on May 22.

Kevin Volkens, Reinbeck, was last weeks $400 winner of Bankroll drawing at Ernie's Super Valu.

Mr. & Mrs. Wilbur Kielly, Reinbeck, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on May 24.

Pam Petersen became the bride of Steve Heithoff on May 14.

Mr. & Mrs. Dave Roberts are parents of a son born May 5.

Mr. & Mrs. Jay Arends, Dike, are parents of a son born May 12.

Fifty will graduate from Reinbeck High School. Commencement services are planned for May 29.

Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Krueger are parents of a daughter born May 11.

Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Fogt are parents of a daughter born May 16.

Mr. & Mrs. Dan Staker are parents of a daughter born May 20.

Mr. & Mrs. Mike Rickert announce the adoption of a daughter born on April 27.

Matthew Rickert, son of Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Rickert, died May 21 at University Hospital following open heart surgery.

Lisa Lorenz, Lisa Verduyn and Cathy Johnston are candidates for the 1973 Town & Country Horse Show queen.

A reception is planned for Genevieve Craven, Extension Home Economist, in Grundy Co. for 20 years of service on June 10.

Harry Ayers, son of Mr. & Mrs. Harry Ayers, has been selected for an Iowa State Agricultural tour to Europe.

Mr. & Mr. Randall Peterson are parents of a son born May 9.

Corn is 95% planted and is almost an inch above ground.

Mary Ellen Cranny will celebrate her 103rd birthday on May 28.

Mr. & Mrs. Alfon Strohbehn have made a gift to the Congregational Church of a new Baldwin organ in memory of their daughter Gladys.

Roger Walters lost $20,000 in a fire including grain, tractor, corn picker, small machinery, barn and double corn crib.

Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Schlicht ae parents of a son born May 16.

Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Plaehn are parents of a son born May 16.

Mrs. Emilie Walter, 80, Dike died My 16.

Marie Smoldt, 89. Gladbrook, died May 15.

Mr. & Mrs. Nick Maau are parents of a daughter born May 15.

Keith Smith, 30, will be the new band leader and music director at the Reinbeck School.
