Joseph Bernard Heithoff was born on April 4, 1940 in Dike, Iowa and grew up in Reinbeck, Iowa. He moved to Davenport in 1969 where he owned and operated Showcase DX, a successful full service gas station. He moved to Des Moines in 1989 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Joe died of lung cancer on March 5, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by the family he loved. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 25 years, Margaret; three step-children, Shawn (Alicia) Stewart of Mitchellville, Christina Eastridge of Altoona, Melissa Stewart of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Seth and Adalynn Stewart, Grace and Aidan Eastridge and Lily and Leland Woods. His family from his first marriage included four children, Lee Heithoff of Council Bluffs, Robert (Lori) Heithoff of Davenport, Cathy of Las Vegas, Nev. and James (Samantha) Heithoff of Winterset, as well as James' three sons. Joe's siblings include Donna (John) Schneider of Bloomfield, Colo., David (Sharon) Heithoff of Reinbeck and Lynn (Sue) Heithoff of Des Moines as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Craig Heithoff.
