Mr. Andy McQuillen receives the 2013 Masonic Teacher of the Year award

May 5, 2013
Reinbeck Courier

On Wednesday, April 24, Coin Lodge Masons Tim Kuehl and Matt Wyatt presented Gladbrook Reinbeck High School's Andy McQuillen with a crystal apple as the local Teacher of the Year. Mr. Mc Quillen currently teaches Business at G-R, as well as coaches track and cross country.

Mr. Matt Leeman, G-R High School Principal, had many good things to say about Andy. "Almost immediately upon being hired at G-R, Mr. McQuillen began making an impact on both our students and his colleagues. Mr. McQuillen is truly a leader who realizes that his job and the education that he is providing for students goes far beyond his classroom. In the short time that he has been an educator in this district he has completely revamped his curriculum to reflect the real world. He understands the importance of preparing our students for the post-secondary world. In doing so, he has taken every opportunity to incorporate technology and other real-world skills into his classes. His classes are very challenging, but students seek out his classes because they realize the worth in taking courses that are instructed by him."

Superintendent Tim Kuehl highly recommended Andy for this honor. "During his short tenure at GRHS Mr. McQuillen has developed a reputation as a top-notch educator; he is respected by his peers, his students, parents, and district administration. Andy is the type of educator that we all want our children to experience. He is able to build a relationship with students that is friendly and supportive, while pushing the students to achieve at levels they hadn't previously thought possible."
