The Grundy County Memorial Hospital will celebrate National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 22 26, 2013. This week allows laboratory professionals an opportunity to call attention to the vital contributions they make to healthcare. The theme for the week is Laboratory Professionals Get Results and get results they do. Laboratory test results comprise about 70% of a patient's medical record. Medical diagnoses and treatment decisions depend on timely and accurate test results. Working behind the scenes, laboratory professionals are a critical component of the healthcare team.
The GCMH Laboratory is a full-service lab accredited and rigorously inspected by both the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (Federal) and the Department of Health & Human Services (State). Tests performed at the GCMH Lab include; blood transfusion services, chemistry analysis, hematology, coagulation and urinalysis testing. Tests not performed at GCMH are normally sent to Allen Memorial Hospital. The technicians performing testing at GCMH have either an Associates or Bachelor's degree and are certified. The GCMH lab is open for outpatient services Monday Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to noon.
"Laboratory technology is constantly changing, and at GCMH we are fortunate to have an excellent laboratory staff as well as state-of-the-art equipment to provide efficient, quality services," says Eric Wenzel, GCMH Lab Manager.
