The Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels had their opening game of the year on April 4th. They were facing the Mustangs from Independence. The first half started off a little slow and was scoreless until the 27th minute where Gladbrook-Reinbeck opened up the scoring. Nicole Adair split two defenders to find Emily Snider, who puts it into the right side of the net. This ended the scoring for the first half of play, and the Rebels go into the half with a 1-0 edge over the Mustangs.

The Mustangs opened up the second half with a quick goal. The Rebels were caught off guard, but by the look of the their demeanor's they were not done. The Rebels came back with a goal themselves in about the 44th minute. The ball was headed forward by Hanna Christopher, misplayed by an Independence defender, and finished by center forward Emily Snider. This caused a momentum switch that would lead the Rebels to score six more goals.

The third goal happened with about 34 minutes remaining in the second half. Kyleah Dugan rocketed a shot, but the goalkeeper got a body on it. Although she got her body in front of it, she was not able to keep possession. Emily Snider was able to tap the ball in from there. The Rebels' fourth goal came off of a penalty kick that was scored by Emily Snider. Nicole Adair was able to put in the Rebels' next goal with a deep shot right into the side netting of the goal. The Rebels' second to last goal was scored by Hanna Christopher with about 14 minutes remaining in the second half. She was left alone at the top of the 18-yard box, and slotted it in to put the Rebels up 6-1. The lady Rebels went up 7-1 when Cydney Rose's shot was deflected into the goal by a Mustang center midfielder.

Defense was a huge part of why the Rebels were able to be so successful. The defense was able to hold a tough Independence team to only one goal. Erin Wentzien, the Rebels' goalie, had six saves on the night. Bailea Evenson was also a large part of the Rebels' victory with one save herself. Come out and support your lady Rebels soccer team!
