PEOSTA-The Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Foundation is announcing the creation of a new annual scholarship for second-year Associate Degree Nursing students enrolled at the Peosta campus, the Edith L. Willer Memorial Nursing Scholarship.
NICC Science instructor Jerry Willer, along with his brother Ivan and nieces Mindie and Renae, are funding the annual $400 scholarship in memory of their mother Edith L. Willer, who died on Sept. 18.
Willer, 84, of Reinbeck, was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Hepburn, daughter of Ray and Iva Williams Winter. She married Merle T. Willer on Sept. 17, 1949, in Villisca. He died Aug. 13, 1979. She married Charles "Charlie" Schoellen in 1985. He died in 1990.
She graduated from Villisca High School in 1946 and received a nursing degree in 1949. She worked in nursing for 47 years at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Reinbeck Nursing Home and Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Willer was a member of the United Methodist Church and was involved with the Ladies Circle and Bible Study.
