Thursday afternoon the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Education Association made their initial proposal to the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School Board. Nancy Gardner, representing the G-REA, proposed the base salary be $33,600 for 2013-14, compared to $32,100 in 2012-13 and Schedule B base would remain $4,900 less than the salary schedule base.
The proposal acknowledged a 0% increase in health insurance costs to maintain full single coverage at current levels, $495.85 per month.
The total cost of the proposal is $3,245,350 which is an increase of $170,980 over the current year and represents a 5.56% total package increase.
Language items included evaluation procedures and Gardner said the G-REA would go along with Peer Evaluation upon the state mandating it. She said they propose that when a staff member is required to travel off-site for meetings, adequate travel time will be provided within contract hours or additional time will be compensated per diem. They propose an increase in mileage from 28 cents per mile to 42 cents per mile.
Under Schedule B, the G-REA is proposing the head speech coach be compensated at a rate of 8% and two assistant speech coach positions be added at a rate of 4% each. At the Middle School they propose adding a student council position to be compensated at a rate of 2%.
The Gladbrook-Reinbeck School Board made their counter proposal to the G-REA and proposed the base salary would remain at $32,100, but aging the salary. Schedule B would follow the Schedule A base as current, by $4,900. The net dollar change would be $38,859 or a 1.26% change.
The board is interested in discussing assignments in the Schedule B-Extra Activities Provisions, drama and speech positions and music teacher involved in musical.
The board and the G-REA will meet on March 5th at 5:30 p.m. in Reinbeck and will be a closed meeting.
