Transforming lives: tissue and eye donation

Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) will be hosting a free CEU program for law enforcement, fire fighters, EMS personnel, MEIs, and nurses titled "Transforming Lives: Tissue & Eye Donations" on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the GCMH Education Room (enter at Door #3 on the west side of the hospital). This program will also be offered by live video conference. Please contact Theresa Borcherding at (319) 824-4153 for more information on attending by video conference.

Ashley Mills, Community Development Specialist at the Iowa Donor Network, will be the presenter. The purpose of the program is to provide knowledge and resources to ensure all potential donors are referred for further evaluation by a local donation agency.

The objectives of the program are to: Describe the role of the health care professional in donor identification and referral. Be knowledgeable on current legislation: CMS, COP, UAGA, and First Person Consent. Identify the differences between cardiac and brain death. Identify common fears and concerns families have about donation. Describe the procedure for organ, tissue and eye recovery. Be knowledgeable of the follow up procedures and post donor conferences.

This program has been approved for 1.0 hour formal CEH for EMS personnel or 0.1 CEU's through Iowa Board of Nursing Provider #258. Participants must attend the entire program to receive credit.
