Tuesday Jan. 8th, G-R 8th grade boys basketball hosted West Marshall, and G-R won 57-22, now 4-2 overall. G-R had three scorers reach double figures: Joe Smoldt 19 pts., Matt Roeding 12 pts., Thomas Mussig 10 pts. and none of these 3 players played in 4th qrt either, followed by Erick Knaack 7 pts., Tyler Pierce 4 pts., Jedd Peterson 2 pts. and Spencer Goos and Alex Tscherter contributing just as importantly with some nice steals, and team play assists. This game was over early as G-R came out ready to win going up 16-0 before their first bucket. Our upcoming schedule is Jan. 14 at Grundy Center, Jan. 15 at Union, Jan. 17 at Radcliffe, Jan. 22 at Gladbrook vs. East Marshall.
G-R 8th boys
basketball set record
Tuesday, Jan. 15th, G-R 8th grade boys basketball traveled to Union to play BCLUW and we won the contest 47-1, now 6-3 on season. We set a Junior High record for least points every allowed in a game, as it was tough game for the Cobras who never got a basket and could only manage one free throw. You could tell that we were ready to play from the start. We played very little full court pressure but our half court pressure was enough as the 35 point spread continual clock was in play. We had a relaxed but confident game style as things just came together for our victory. Rebel's had 7 players score and we were led by Matt Roeding 15 pts., followed by Joe Smoldt 12 pts., Erik Knaack and Thomas Mussig 6 pts. each, Tyler Pierce 4 pts., Alex Tscherter and Spencer Goos 2 pts. each with Jed Peterson 3 steals and 1 rebound, and Jaden McGhee with some good energy. I was pleased with our floor spacing and dribbling with our eyes up to see and make the up court pass. We have 3 games left and our upcoming schedule: Jan. 17 at Radcliffe, Jan. 22 at Gladbrook vs. East Marshall.
Tuesday, Jan. 22, G-R 8th grade boys basketball played East Marshall Mustangs and we won the contest 62-26 now 8-3 on season. The 35 point spread continual clock was again in play. The Mustangs played a mixed squad of their top 4 8th graders and their top 5 7th graders for a 9 player Junior High "A" game roster. Like all my past G-R 8th grade teams, we played an up tempo game style, pushing defense to create our offense, and we had it running tonight. We had 7 players score and 3 players with 5 or more assists in this game. The young Rebels were led by Joe Smoldt 27 points (one more than their team scored), followed by Matt Roeding 13 pts., Thomas Mussig 8 pts., Tyler Pierce 6 pts, Eric Knaack 4 pts., Spencer Goos and Jed Peterson 2 pts. each and just as importantly was Alex Tscherter 1 rebound, 1 steal and 1 assist game and Jaden McGhee 2 rebounds night.
