The Rebels started out the New Year as we traveled to LeGrand to take on the Mustangs. You could tell that we were a little rusty from the lay-off as the Mustangs took a 16-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. From that point on the Rebels found their rhythm and outscored East Marshall 63-39 the rest of the way for a 77-55 victory. The Rebels were able to achieve 4/5 of their game goals. These goals are critical stats that show how well we are running our system. The Rebels got 106 shots up (80), shot 47 threes (40), forced 67 turnovers (30), and got 46 more shoots than our opponent (25). The only goal we did not reach was we rebounded 28% of our misses (33%). All of these goals relate to pace of game, which we want to be chaotic and fast paced!
Eleven players scored for the Rebels led by Emily Snider with 15. Amber Berendes finished with 12, Britney Keller 10, Nicole Adair 8, Hayley Weber 7, Taylor Flamme 6, Erin Wentzien 6, Ellie Stoakes 4, Hanna Christopher 4, Allysen White 3, and Bailea Evenson 2.
On the following Tuesday South Hardin came to town. They had beaten us on their floor in December so this would be a good test for us to see if we had improved. It was not a pretty game, but it was a typical System slugfest game. When the dust had settled the Rebels were on top 63-58. These young ladies are not always fundamentally strong, but I don't think you will find a team in the state that plays any harder than they do! As a coach I cannot ask more of my team than that.
Emily Snider led all scorers with 19 points. Emily also added 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 assists to the stat sheet. Britney Keller followed her with a season high 14 point. Amber Berendes scored 7, Hayley Weber 7, Taylor Flamme 7, Nicole Adair 4, Erin Wentzien 3, and Ellie Stoakes 2.
On Friday night AGWSR came to town and went home with a 77-67 win. This game say the Rebels come out ready to play as we built a 17-11 first quarter lead. The second quarter was played even and at half time we were up 34-28. The second half saw the Rebels decide to play defense with their hands and not their feet as we committed 19 fouls!!! This allowed AGWSR to score 15 points from the free throw line. While they were at the line they were also resting and did not allow us to wear they out and keep the pace of the game where we wanted it. BALLGAME. Hopefully we learned a valuable lesson here and will not allow this to happen again.
Emily Snider had a nice game as she finished the game with 22 points. Erin Wentzien hit 4 threes for the game and finished with 13. Taylor Flamme scored 7 and Hanna Christopher 7. Amber Berendes scored 6 before leaving the game in the third quarter with a dislocated shoulder. Amber has really been coming on and we hope we can get her back on the court in the near future! Rounding out the scoring was Nicole Adair with 5, Hayley Weber 4, Britney Keller 2, and Ellie Stoakes 1. You can view all Rebel stats at quickstats.com
