Iowa's 10 Week Wellness Challenge begins on January 28, with teams being formed throughout Grundy County to join others across the state in working towards improved health. The simple fitness challenge provides Iowans an opportunity to improve their health, even during the state's cold winter months.
Over the course of 10 weeks, teams of anywhere from two to ten people track activity minutes and/or weight loss through the Live Healthy Iowa website. Each team member has a personal online dashboard to report progress, monitor progress and access resources. The Challenge works well for friends, families, businesses, schools or communities looking for motivation to improve overall fitness and health.
The Grundy County Wellness Coalition and the Grundy Center Wellness Committee are encouraging local sign-ups. The cost is $20, which includes a new 2013 Challenge t-shirt, weekly activity and nutrition tips via email, opportunities to win individual prizes and team incentives, and a one-year subscription to a magazine. Enrollment is through the website www.livehealthyiowa.org.
If you're enrolling online for the Ten Week Challenge, use the Grundy County Group ID - LHIGRUNDY so that your participation can be credited to Grundy County. The county Wellness Coalition is aiming to have the highest percentage of participants among all Iowa counties. In 2011, Grundy County had 10% county-wide participation, which led the state.
Individuals who are interested in taking part but are not part of a team may sign up at the Grundy Family YMCA, who will place you on a team. New year's goals are more easily achieved when you team up with other people! Call the YMCA with questions 319-825-6210.
