David E. Tansey, 77, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Dec 30, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of complications of lung cancer.
He was born March 14, 1935 in Waterloo the son of Lee and Ruth Reed Tansey. He married Marilyn Pearson on May 28, 1955 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2004. He then married Karen Mitchell on June 3, 2005 in Reinbeck.
David was the assistant to the publisher of the Waterloo Courier and was in charge of display advertising. He was also past member of the board of directors, Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and Waterloo Downtown Council; president, Midwest Advertising and Marketing Association; treasurer Eastern Iowa Designated Marketing Area, Inc.; treasurer, Metro Iowa, Plus, Inc.; exhibit chairman, member of the board of directors, International Newspaper Advertising Association; marketing committee member, Iowa Newspaper Association. After retirement he became president of S.C.O.R.E. until 2012.
He is survived by his wife; 1 son, Mike (Cathy) Tansey of Phoenix, Ariz., 2 step-sons, Jeff (Heather) Greiner of Grundy Center, John Greiner of Dinsdale; 2 daughters, Jennifer Tansey of West Des Moines, Lori (Mike) McCarvel of Waterloo; 1 step-daughter, Kelly (Derek) Hileman of Grain Valley, Mo.; 1 brother, Gail Tansey of Cedar Falls; 1 sister, Beverly (Ken) Witt of Evansdale; 3 grandchildren, Jesse, Alyssa and Madison McCarvel; 6 step grandchildren, Nicki and Brandi, Bryce and Trent Greiner, Taylor and Jack Hileman.
He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Margaret Danielson.
Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, Jan 4, at Central Christian Church with burial in the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball from 4 8 PM Thursday and hour before services at the church.
