The lady Rebels traveled to South Tama on Tuesday, December 18th, to search for another conference victory. Once again, the Rebels fell into a large hole in the first quarter where the score was 29-9, in favor of the Trojans. The Rebels were able to outscore them in the 2nd and 4th quarters, and match their output of 21 points in the 3rd quarter. The scoring was led by Taylor Flamme (18), Emily Snider (16), and Erin Wentzien (10). There were also contributions from Nicole Adair (8), Hayley Weber (7), Britney Keller (5), Ellie Stoakes (4), Amber Berendes (2), and Hanna Christopher (2).
The Rebels were able to turn the Trojan over 30 times Tuesday night. The steals were led by Emily Snider (10), Hayley Weber (4), Taylor Flamme (3), and Nicole Adair (3). Steals are a key part of the style of basketball that the Rebels play, and they were able to reach their turnover goal. The only goal that the Rebels weren't able to meet Tuesday was their goal of offensive rebounds. Second chance shots just put a dagger into the opponents hearts, especially when they are already tired. The rebounding was lead by Emily Snider (9), Britney Keller (6), and Amber Berendes (6).
The Rebels were within eight points at one time in the 4th quarter, and were starting to go on a run. Once the Rebels got some momentum they would lose it when the Trojans were able to cash in from the free throw line. Shooting free throws in something that the Rebels really try to avoid. They try to avoid them because it gives the other team some time to rest, and it also slows the game down. Although the Rebels weren't able to pull it off Tuesday, Coach Bailey was extremely proud of the effort that was put forth. They will practice hard over winter break, and clean some things up before the upcoming games.
