Michael J. McCarthy, 49, of Waterloo, died Saturday, November 17, at Covenant Medical Center.
He was born July 24, 1963 in El Paso, Texas, son of James and Sonia Smith McCarthy. He married Roberta Bovy on September 12, 1987 in Eagle Center.
Mike was one of the founders of Emerald Industries in Dike in 1996 and has been employed at John Deere Waterloo Engine Works for 12 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Roberta McCarthy; three sons, Nolan (Megan) McCarthy of Waukee, Zachariah McCarthy of Waverly and Shaun McCarthy of Ames; two daughters, Hayley McCarthy of Waverly and Laura McCarthy of Waterloo; a grandson, Eamonn; his father, James McCarthy of Waterloo; and two brothers, Douglas (Kelli) McCarthy of Waterloo and Bradley (Janine) McCarthy of Toledo.
Preceded in death by: his mother, Sonia McCarthy, in 2010.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Reinbeck with burial at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Eagle Center. Public visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and at the church for an hour before services on Wednesday.
