On Monday, November 5th, the Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School All- State Auditions traveled to Mason City to participate in the NICL Honor Choir. Mrs.-Amanda Bridges, the choral director of the Gladbrook-Reinbeck District, loaded a school bus with six students, including: Cortney Crozier, Breanna Schlictmann, Braden Heithoff, Aaron Shouse, Rebecca Franksain, and Shelby Yates. The group arrived at NIACC Performance Auditorium at 12:30 p.m., where they were accompanied by 10th-12th grade students from 12 other schools in the North Central District. An estimated total of 225 high school students were in the All-State Honor Choir. Rehearsal was held from 1-5:00 p.m., and was directed by honorary guest conductor, John Wiles from UNI.
The students returned back to NIACC Performance Auditorium for a 7:00 p.m. concert, which included performances by: 7th-9th grade Opus Choir, 7th and 8th grade Treble and Bass Choir, and 10-12th grade All-State Honor Choir. All-State Honor Choir members performed seven pieces of music that they've been practicing and mastering since August. To say the show was superb would be an understatement! The students favorite part of the concert was the traditional, grand finale performance of "Battle Hymn of the Republic". The All-State Honor Choir led the fabulous arrangement, and during the last verse, all the 7th-9th graders filed down the aisles and joined in song. Of course, the cherry on top was when the whole audience joined in the last chorus. Every person in that gymnasium was on his/her feet in an overwhelming thunder of applause!
Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School students who participated in this event would tell you that this was one of the best experiences in their lives! It was a great reward when director, John Wiles, stated that our North Central District was the best prepared and made the best choral music above all the other six districts he had worked with across Iowa. Knowing that all their hard work paid off was an amazing feeling! It's a very unique experience to hear a choir of over 200 kids sing with you, verses the size of sound our choirs create here at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School. This year's juniors that participated can't wait to attend again next year! The seniors say that they are very thankful for this opportunity, and that it was a highlight of their high school career! All students would agree that they're still on a "music high" from the 2012 All-State Honor Choir!
