A new club has been created at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School. Since last year's upgrade to 1:1 ratio of students to computers, it became apparent to Mr. Leeman, the club advisor, that our school needed a Student Tech Committee. It consists of a group of students who enjoy spending time on their computers, and want to learn more about them and their applications.
Their main goal is to help students whenever they may have questions about certain things on their computers. The Student Tech Committee also hosts a professional development day to teach students about computers. On this day, the students follow the routine of a half-day schedule, and then spend the afternoon going room-to-room and learning about different applications on their computers. Each session is taught by a Student Tech Committee member, and are informational, educational, and helpful for everyone.
Recently, the Student Tech Committee has been selling computer covers to all the students at G-R to give them the sense of personalization, while protecting the computers at the same time. After last year's exciting, and successful response to the keyboard covers, they thought the computer covers would be a great idea, too! Student Tech Committee looks for a couple students from each grade to participate.
Students who were involved the school year previous usually carry over into the new year. They mainly focus on getting incoming freshmen involved. If someone wants to get involved, they are more than welcome to come to a meeting and join!
This club is very beneficial to our school, because they can teach students and teachers things they may not know, and makes using the computers more efficient when it comes to class time and school work. They are hoping to have a functioning website or page on the school's main site, so they can best serve students, faculty, and other internet users.
