The Tri-County Ag Marketing Club meets 3 times this fall and winter in Conrad. The first meeting will take place Wednesday, November 14th beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Conrad at the Mid-Iowa Co-op Grain Marketing Office located at 209 North Lincoln Street.
The topic of discussion for the November meeting will be "Crop Price Outlook: Lessons Learned in 2012" presented by Steve Johnson, ISU Extension Farm Management Specialist, and Ed Kordick, Research & Commodity Services with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. Crop price outlook and marketing strategies for both the 2012 and 2013 crops will be discussed. Participants will be instructed that evening how to enroll in the Iowa Commodity Challenge, an online market simulation game and receive a 40-page Marketing Tools Workbook. The game allows participants to trade 75,000 bushels of corn and 25,000 bushels of soybeans stored at a local elevator using a variety of marketing tools including cash sales, forward cash contracts, futures contract hedging and the use of both put and call options.
The public is invited to attend this meeting and there is a registration fee per person or per couple and payable at the door. Attendance at this first club meeting in November is strongly encouraged, with follow up meetings planned in Conrad on February 13 and March 13.
The Tri County Ag Marketing Club is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Mid-Iowa Co-op, Lincoln Savings Bank, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and the Grundy National Bank. If you have questions, please contact the Grundy County Extension Office at (319) 824-6979.
