November in national alzheimer’s awareness month

November 11, 2012
Reinbeck Courier

Arlington Place Assisted Living in Grundy Center hosts the Alzheimer Support Group the 4th Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. This is a time and place for caregivers of someone with alzheimer's disease, to meet with others who are in a similar situation.

Caregivers can benefit greatly from participating in a support group. Gaining information, resources and support in a caring, non-judgmental environment is the goal of the support group. Participants gain a sense of trust and validation knowing that they are not alone in coping with the difficulties of caring for someone with alzheimer's disease. Caregiving can be demanding and stressful. Support groups offer a safe place to discuss common problems, ways to cope with the stress and how to care for oneself.
