Marvin Barfels, 90, Grundy Center, died Sept. 21 at the Grundy Co. Memorial Hospital.

Lillian Flater, 79, Grundy Center, died Sept. 17 at Allen Hospital.

John Russell Lorenz, 3, died Sept. 20 at Children's Hospital in King of Prussia, Pa.

The 17th annual Oktemberfest begins on Sept. 26 for a 4 day run in Marshalltown.

Volunteers help construct new playground equipment at the Reinbeck Elementary School.

Mr. & Mrs. Les Douglas are parents of a son born Sept. 25.

Beulah Dahms, 84, formerly of Gladbrook, died Sept. 21.

Private funeral services were held for Irma Johnson, 73, died Sept. 23, formerly of Reinbeck, were held Sept. 26.

Funeral services were held for Clara Fiet, former longtime Reinbeck resident, were held on Oct. 8 in Fort Myers, Fla.

Mr. & Mrs. Charles Felton of Winfield are parents of a son born Sept. 29.

Mr. & Mrs. Jeff Hodgin of Hudson are parents of a son born Oct. 1, 1982.

Mr. & Mrs. Tim Kammeyer are parents of a daughter born Sept. 23.

Mr. & Mrs. Larry Filer, Waterloo, are parents of a daughter born Sept. 30.

Jennifer S. Matthews, 10 day old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Matthews, Grundy Center, died at St. Francis Hospital.

Members of the Traer Golf Club voted to purchase 20 acres to expand the course. Cost of the project will be approximately $64,000.

OCT. 1962

Harold Meester, 50, living near Grundy Center, was severely injured when a bull charged him.

Mr. & Mrs. LeRoy Moser, Jr., Gretchen & Julie were a small group of "press" folks who visited and had breakfast with the Lennon Sisters of the Lawrence Welk Show who were performing at Cattle Congress.

William Glasener, 79, died Oct. 1 in a Cedar Falls Hospital.

Ray Plaehn, 67, died Sept. 27.

Mr. & Mrs. Conrad Bragg of Waterloo are parents of a daughter born Oct. 2.

Mr. & Mrs. Richard Claussen are parents of a daughter born Sept. 28.

Mr. & Mrs. William Rickert are parents of a daughter born Sept. 23.

Glen Dirks, Reinbeck cream hauler for the Hudson Coop and Russell Nichols of Waterloo, whole milk hauler, have contracted the entire out put of milk from the Cattle Congress herds.

Fire threatened to destroy buildings on the Harley Ingols farm east of town when Harley noticed some lumber & posts on fire caused by a rubbish pile fire the day before.

240 acre farm of Mrs. John Ramsey, tenanted by Paul Robertson, was sold to Reinbeck Canning Co. for $290 an acre.

Paul Andersen, 58, died Sept. 26 in Waterloo.

70 YEARS AGO

OCT. 1942

Mr. Fritz Linder, 73, passed way in Cedar Rapids on Sept. 29.

Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Petersen are parents of a son born Sept. 30.

On Sept. 25 the first snow fall was recorded and the first ever recorded in Sept. The temp was 32 degrees. The mercury dipped to 20 degrees.
