Sports injury, a free CEU program offered by GCMH

Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) will be hosting free education for trainers, coaches, EMS and nurses titled "Sports Injury" on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 9:00 11:00 a.m. in the GCMH Education Room (enter at Door #3 on the west side of the hospital).

Christopher Hill, D.O.; Christopher Wiedman, MPT, DPT; and Jason Hernandez, EMTP will be the presenters. The purpose of the program is to educate the basic principles of sports injuries and identifying those which require immediate medical attention.

The objectives of the program are to:

complete a basic screening exam for the upper and lower extremities, identify common upper and lower extremity general sports injuries and apply the RICE principle, be able to identify signs and symptoms of more serious sports injuries requiring immediate medical attention

identify neck injuries and signs and symptoms of concussion with proper management of symptoms, discuss the role of EMS during a sports injury and the challenges it may present

review the primary and secondary assessment as it pertains to the sports injury, discuss the tools and equipment that best facilitate exposure, assessment and packaging of the sports injured patient and discuss the proper steps to safety equipment removal of the sports injured patient.
