The Central Iowa Tourism Region offers grants for tourism marketing and education programs. Non-profit organizations in Grundy County (and other CITR counties in good standing) and for-profit organizations that are also CITR Business members in good standing are encouraged to apply.
Grants of up to $1,000 per project may be awarded in the following categories:
Advertising (print, web, television, etc.),
Heritage Tourism (acquisition, restoration, demonstrations, etc),
Promotion Print (brochures, distribution costs, etc.),
Promotion Other (websites, trade show registration fees, etc.), and
Tourism Training (hospitality training, writing a marketing plan, public relations, etc.)
Because CITR must spend grant funds in the same fiscal year in which they are appropriated, projects must be completed and paid for between July 1, 2012 and June 1, 2013. Grants are set-up on a reimbursement basis and are payable only upon completion of the project.
All grants are reviewed on a competitive basis. Generally, reviewers place emphasis on the following areas when evaluating applications:
Impact the potential reach to visitors from outside of the CITR
Effectiveness appropriateness of the method to reach visitors outside of the CITR
Distribution what percentage of materials are to be distributed outside the CITR
Local need how will tourism in the area be enhanced
Participation in the CITR how active are the applicant organizations in supporting the CITR
Copies of each grant, requirements for each grant, and tips for improving your applications can be found by visiting www.iowatourism.com/members/grant-applications/index.php. All grants must be RECEIVED by the Central Iowa Tourism Region office by Noon, Friday, October 5, 2012. Note this is not a postmark date.
