Shooters of all shapes, sizes and ages showed up to test their archery skills at the Grundy County Greenbelt on August 18 and 19. What was the day like? It was cool and mosquito free! Sunday was just as good or better.
How many of you have been involved in planning events, outdoor events particularly, and worried about the weather? Well, that's what we were doing this past week with the Scheels 3D bow shoot event in Reinbeck, worrying without a thing that you could really do about it right?
The day started at 5:45 AM for conservation board staff setting up the 40 shooting stations with the lifelike targets. Then it was readying the registration area for the shooters that would be arriving before 7:30 AM.
Shooters of all ages enjoyed the Scheels 3D bow shoot on Saturday and Sunday in Reinbeck.
There were shooters of all shapes and sizes and all manner of dress, as well. Some shooters exited the vehicle looking like they were headed off for a round of golf. Others were decked out like they could be headed for a deer hunt in the tree stand. The spectator looked to be about three years old. Dad made it about half way around the course before his son tired of the walk and they had to call it quits. The course included shots in prairie and woodland conditions.
The targets were many and varied. From the comments, the archers enjoyed themselves and found the course challenging and more importantly fun. At the end of things on Sunday, one hundred and seventy-four archers had tested their skills. The results were:
1st 388, Curtis Brown West Des Moines, Iowa ($50 Scheels gift card)
2nd 385, Cory Townsend Lisbon, Iowa
