The Dysart Development Corporation's 10th Annual Old Iron Days will be held in the Dysart City Park on July 27 and 28. Festivities will start on Friday evening, July 27, with the Show and Shine Car Show starting at 5 p.m. Sugar and Spice will be playing great old and new music in the open shelter house from 6-8 p.m., and the Car Cruise will be held at 8 p.m.
Many of the tractors will arrive Friday evening and will be displayed on the ball diamond. There will also be vintage machinery displayed and a large Flea Market on both Friday and Saturday. There will also be special events for the shoppers on Dysart's Main Street with many speciality shops and stores.
Harold Langbehn will have a large display of John Deere tractors and equipment that he will have on his auction September 8, in the park. The Great Tractor Ride will be held on Saturday, July 28, starting at the Dysart City Park with check-in beginning at 7 a.m. This year's event is being co-sponsored by Tama-Benton Co-op to help celebrate their 100th anniversary. All the tractor riders that mail in their entry will have their name put in for a $100 cash prize from Tama-Benton Co-op.
There will be two different routes this year, with a 100 mile route for the 100 years, and the regular 66 mile route. The Saturday event begins with the Dysart Lions Club serving a biscuit and gravy breakfast along with sweet rolls starting at 7 a.m. The fast tractors will leave at 8:30 a.m. with the slower tractors following at 9 a.m. Lunch for the riders will be at the Vinton Co-op site, and the Lions famous tenderloin meal will be held in the Dysart City Park starting at 4:30 p.m. The breakfast and tenderloin dinner are both open to the public.
To finish off the day, the Tama-Benton Co-op is holding a free barn dance at their new fertilizer plant in the northwest corner of Dysart. This will give everyone a change to tour the new site, have free refreshments, and enjoy a nice evening of music and visiting.
