Area youth from the Presbyterian Church will participate in Kids for Kentucky. They will be leaving July 20 and returning on July 27.

Sherri & Ashley Denbow, rural Gladbrook, to be representatives at the Young Women's Health Summit in Washington, D.C.

Dorothy Martens, 94, Reinbeck, died July 11 at Parkview Manor.

Jennie Wilson, received her Juris Doctor Degree from Drake University on May 18.

This past week workers have been giving the new library some finishing touches.

Grundy Center City Council has appointed Jim Copeman public works director, as the American Disabilities Act Director.

Dan Foster was recently selected to the class 1A-2A first team all District as catcher.

Mr. & Mrs. Roger Eslinger, Reinbeck, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house on Aug. 1 at their home.

Tempest Hulme and Rob Nelson were married June 20 at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck.

Viola Ehlers will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house.

Emma Foster, Grundy Center, will celebrate her 80th birthday with a card shower.

Linda Kielly and James Johnson of Waterloo announce their upcoming wedding.

Mr. & Mrs. Loren Aalfs, Cedar Falls, are parents of a son born July 25.

AUGUST 5, 1982

Vandals caused considerable inconvenience and damage at Elmwood swimming pool by throwing a table, bench, hoses, brushes and other equipment into the pool. The case remains under investigation.

The 75 ft. smoke stack that has served as the school's broiler room for more than 40 years was struck by lightning on July 12, blowing away many bricks and causing severe cracks in the structure.

Cynthia Winberg and William Soska were united in marriage on July 24.

Mr. & Mrs. Kenny Taylor are parents of a son born July 26.

Mr. & Mrs. Albert Peters of Reinbeck, observed their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house, They were married Aug. 17, 1932.

Funeral services were held for J. Harold Miller, 85, rural Reinbeck, on August 4 at the UCC Church in Reinbeck.

Mr. & Mrs. Mark Boehm, Ogden, Iowa are parents of a daughter born August 3. Mrs. Boehm is the former Sandra Rickert.

AUGUST 3, 1972

Tom Lorenz, son of Mr. & Mrs. Noel Lorenz, is back in training with the Viking pro football team in Mankato, Minn.. home of the football camp.

Carol Beenken and Joe Doergeo were married on July 21 at St. John's Lutheran . Church in Reinbeck.

Rose Brown, 75, Reinbeck, died July 29 following a heart attack.

Mr. & Mrs. Joe Nosbisch are parents of a daughter born July 31.

Mike Rickert will attend the America Institute of Cooperative Annual Meeting

Hannes Engel, 67, former Dinsdale farmer died July 31 in Waterloo.

Gilbert Niederman, 41, Reinbeck, received a careless driving summons after he lost control of his motorcycle in Waterloo.

Mr. & Mrs. James Keith are parents of a daughter born July 29.

Mr. & Mrs. Keith Smith will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house on Aug. 12.

60 YEARS AGO

AUGUST, 1952

Mr. & Mrs. James O'Brien purchased the Dairy Bar from Harriett Patrick and have announced their open house on August 5 with free coffee, donuts and dairy freeze cones.

Robby's Superior Station located on Grundy Ave. announce their grand opening on August 1st. Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Robinson of Waterloo purchased the station from Ed. Dempster.

Mr. & Mrs. Charles Duncan lost their new born daughter shortly after birth.

Charles Cherney, 8, son of Mr. & Mrs. Richard Cherney became the 2nd polio victim. The first one was Russell Janssen, 4, of Wellsburg.

Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Bicket are parents of a son born July 26.

Melvin Shipley fractured 3 ribs when he fell off a load of hay.

Mary Stewart, Waterloo, became the bride of Cecil Lauterbach, also of Waterloo on July 27.

Mrs. Carl Bern, 67, Gladbrook, died July 24.

AUGUST. 1942

Wallace Breakenridge received his commission as 2nd Lieut in the Marine.

Sherm Cooper operator of the Standard Station in Reinbeck, will try to enlist in the Marine Corp.

Mr. & Mrs. Ray Peters are parents of a daughter born July 26.
