The Red Cross will be collecting blood donations at the Reinbeck Memorial Building from 2:00 - 6:00 on Thursday, July 5th. The need for blood continues through the summer, but many of the donors are busy with their own summer activities and vacations, so it is important that those of us available, donate, and encourage other to do the same.
Here are a few facts to consider before the donation.
Get a good night's sleep.
Eat a healthy meal including iron-rich foods, such as spinach, red meat, fish, poultry, beans, iron-fortified cereals and raisins. Avoid fatty foods.
Drink an extra 16 ounces of water and fluids.
Remember to bring a donor card, and a driver's license, or two other forms of Identification.
For platelet donors, remember that your system must be free of aspirin for two days prior to your donation.
During the donation.
Wear clothing with sleeves that can be raised.
Let the phlebotomist know if you have a preferred arm.
Relax, listen to music, read, or talk to other donors.
Having an appointment helps to space out the flow of donors, however an appointment is not necessary to give blood. Call Irma Thede (788-2388) or Mary Lou Moser (345-2810) to set up an appointment.
