The Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association has released its all-state teams and nine of the NICL West's best have received spots on either the first or second team.
Three are repeat all-state selections, led by South Tama senior Taylor Van Dyk being named to the Class 3A girls first team. The honor is the fourth all-state nod for the future University of Northern Iowa Panther and her third time on the first team.
Taylor Van Dyk was the NICL West and district medalist and helped the Trojans advance to the state tournament as a team for the first time since 1998. At state, she was the sixth-place medal-winner.
South Tama sophomore Paige Van Dyk received her second consecutive first team selection. Van Dyk was the runner-up in the NICL West conference meet and the regional champion. She finished fourth at the state meet.
AGWSR senior Katie Schachterle was named to the 1A girls first team, moving up from the second team last spring. Schachterle finished third individually at last month's state competition.
The Grundy Center girls, coming off a runner-up finish in their eighth straight trip to the state championships, had three players on the 1A girls second team - Hillary Samo, Baylie Wrage and Josie McMartin.
East Marshall senior Chantel Eicher gained first team mention on the Class 2A girls squad. Eicher, an Ashford recruit, finished third at the state meet for the third medal-winning performance of her career.
On the boys' side, Gladbrook-Reinbeck had two all-state picks in Class 1A. Kevin Trobaugh, a NIACC signee and the NICL West medalist, was on the first team. Junior Jacob Smoldt was on the second team.
Named to the all-tournament team from the state championships (based on finish at the meet) were Paige Van Dyk and Taylor Van Dyk of South Tama (first team in 3A), Eicher of East Marshall (first team in 2A), Schachterle of AGWSR (first team in 1A) and Josie McMartin of Grundy Center (second team in 1A).
