GLADBROOK - Class 3A No. 6 East Marshall won its eighth in a row to start the summer as the Mustangs defeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck 18-4 in NICL West softball action on Monday.
Katie Roseland hit a three-run home run for East Marshall (now 3-0 in conference play). The round-tripper was the fifth of the season for the junior catcher.
Taylor Fricke added three hits, which included a home run. Karly Long and Alyssa Whitmore both had three hits as well.
Long was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out nine.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck (4-3, 1-2) was within 6-4 in the fourth before the Mustangs pulled away.
Kayla Holbach hit a grand slam to drive in each of the Rebels' runs. Taylor Flamme and Hayley Weber both had two hits and a run scored.
Starting pitcher Taylor Street took the loss, allowing six runs (one earned) on four hits in four innings.
NICL West play continues tonight with East Marshall traveling to South Hardin, while G-R hosts South Tama.
