JAN. 3, 2002

Teri Rokusek will run in the Olympics on Jan. 10. She will carry the torch and run about 3 city blocks.

Marlene Beenken will retire after 31 yrs. with the Dept. of Human Services in Tama County.

Ruth Bachman, 94, Eldora, died Dec. 24 at Ellsworth Hospital.

Iva Schildroth, 86, Grundy Center, died Dec. 22 at the Grundy Co., Memorial Hospital.


JAN. 9, 1992

Mr. & Mrs. Delvin Harms will observe their 45th wedding anniversary with an open house.

Marvin Barfels will celebrate his 80th birthday with an open house on Jan. 18.

Services for Lester Strohm, 24, Davenport, were held on Sat. Jan. 4 in Davenport.

Services for Thomas Smith, 78, were held on Jan. 4 at the United Methodist Church.


JAN. 14,1982

Personnel in the Grundy Center office of Social Security will be cut from 7 to 3 office employees effective Jan. 26th.

Kim Renner, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Dale Renner, Junior at Walnut Ridge Baptist Academy, was installed as Worthy Advisor of the Reinbeck Assembly #100 Order of Rainbow Girls on Jan. 17.

Andrew Monk, 14, son of Gerald & Eloise Monk, will receive his Eagle Scout Award on Jan. 17th.

Mr. & Mrs. Herbert Hamann will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 24 with an open house.

Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Robinson of Belle Plaine are parents of a son born Jan. 8.

Funeral services for Bill Nehring were held Jan. 8 at French-Hand Funeral home. Mr. Nehring passed away Jan. 6 at Schoitz Hospital.

Elizabeth (Beth) Neil, 84, Reinbeck, died Jan. 6 at Schoitz Hospital and services were held on Jan. 9 at Amity Church.

Caryn Rittgers and Paul Strohbehn were married on Dec. 26 at the United Church of Christ.


JAN. 13, 1972

Debra Thede will be installed as Worthy Advisor Order of Rainbow for Girls on Jan. 16.

Mr. & Mrs. Robert Wright have purchased the former car wash on the east edge of Reinbeck for $500.

Anna Mae Rubendall and Kendall Walters exchanged marriage vows on Jan. 8 in Waterloo.

Mr. & Mrs. Norris Schuman are parents of a son born Jan. 10.

Mr. & Mrs. Gary Oelschlager are parents of a daughter born Dec. 26.

Dwight Moody, 73, died Jan. 6 at the Grundy Co. Hospital.

Boys & girls journey will be held at Dinsdale on Jan. 15, 17, 18, 19 & 20.

A vandal threw a pop bottle through a picture window at the Ralph (Toby) Falway home.

Below zero temps still prevail. A plea is being made for people to feed the wild life.

Harleys Ingols is quitting farming and will hold a closing-out sale east of Reinbeck on Jan. 16.

Announcement is made of LuAnn Meggers and Loren Lorenzen to be married.

Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Thede are parents of a son born Jan. 4.

Mr. & Mrs. Don Siefken are parents of a daughter born Jan. 9.

W.L. Mooty, Grundy Center, took out nomination papers for Rep. of Grundy Co. to succeed himself having served one term.

Delvin Harms began employment at Iowa Electric Light & Power Co. as a meter reader.

Mr. & Mrs. Junior Thede are parents of a son born Jan. 6.

Mr. & Mrs. Howard Mooty are parents of a daughter born Jan. 5.

Barbara Schelling and Bill Ragsdale are engaged to be married.


JAN. 1942

Billy Anderson, 3, Newton, was killed instantly when the car he was riding in collided with a train on Hwy 63 three 1/2 miles south of Noe's Midway St.

Battery rationing is expected soon because of the heavy run on buying batteries for future use.
