Grundy County Wellness Fair set for January 7

December 17, 2011
Reinbeck Courier

It's almost time to make your New Year's resolutions and the Grundy County Wellness Coalition is ready to help you tackle any resolutions that involve improving your health!

A county-wide Wellness Fair is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, January 7, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital. The event is free to the public and offers a variety of health assessments and learning opportunities to help individuals achieve a healthier lifestyle. A healthy free breakfast will be served in the hospital's East J Caf. The Wellness Fair begins at 7:00 a.m. and lasts until 10:00 a.m.

Key measurements of cardiac health will be available at the Wellness Fair, including free blood pressure checks. A biochemical profile that includes full cholesterol screen is available for a fee. Also available for a modest fee are blood screens for thyroid disease, prostate cancer, and the A1C blood screen that measures key numbers for diabetic health. Fasting for 10-12 hours before your blood is drawn is recommended for accurate results.

The Grundy County Wellness Coalition will offer free body fat percentage testing and measurements. These measurements can be used as baseline data for individuals who wish to participate in the Live Healthy Iowa 100 Day Wellness Challenge. Teams and individuals can sign up for Live Healthy Iowa at the Grundy County Wellness Fair.

Also available at the Wellness Fair: hearing screenings, chair massages, acupuncture information and sports injury information. Fitness centers from throughout Grundy County will be in attendance including the Grundy Family YMCA, Peaseful Yoga & Fitness and AGAPE Therapy. Information will be provided on wellness services that are available in Conrad, Dike, Grundy Center, Reinbeck and Wellsburg.

"It's great to begin the new year with an understanding of the Grundy County resources that are available to help you meet your health and wellness goals," remarks Pam Delagardelle, CEO of Grundy County Memorial Hospital. "Starting the year with basic information about your overall health is an effective way to measure your progress if you're planning to begin a new exercise or eating program."

The Grundy County Wellness Coalition includes representatives from the Grundy County Public Health Department, Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District, Dike-New Hartford School District, BCLUW School District, AGWSR School District, Grundy Center School District, Grundy County Board of Supervisors and other wellness organizations throughout Grundy County. If you would like more information about getting involved with this coalition, please contact Co-chairs Angie Dieken at angie.dieken@dnhcsd.org or Andrew Peters at apeters@spartanpride.net.
