Senior health insurance information

November 26, 2011
Reinbeck Courier

Where can I go to find answers about the Medicare Prescription Drug Plans? Are mammograms covered by Medicare Part B? What coverage can I get with Medicare supplement insurance? Do long-term care policies cover people with Alzheimer's disease?

Answers to these questions can be found by meeting with the new Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) volunteer at Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

One new volunteer has recently completed the six-day extensive training program conducted by the State of Iowa. The recent graduate of the program in Grundy Center is Nancy Miller. People wishing to schedule an appointment should call (319) 824-5081 or toll-free (888) 824-5081.

SHIIP, the Senior Health Insurance Information Program, was created in 1990 in response to the statewide need for senior health insurance information. SHIIP provides free informational materials as well as one-to-one assistance with Medicare Coverage, Medicare supplement insurance, long-term care insurance, Medicare and insurance claims and other related issues. SHIIP does not recommend insurance companies, plans or agents; the volunteers answer questions and provide impartial information to help seniors make well-informed decisions.

If you have any questions regarding our services please call the hospital at (319) 824-5421 or visit our website at www.GrundyCountyHospital.org.
