Memory Trees celebrate 10 years

November 19, 2011
Reinbeck Courier

An idea of having a Christmas tree honoring our loved ones as part of "Miracle on Main" celebration became a reality in 2001 when Barb Winterroth asked Lil Westergaard if she would like to help with this project. The suggestion was from Barb's daughter Lori (Winterroth) Harris. The tree would be part of the Christmas Tree walk at Lincoln Savings Bank. And so the tradition began with one tree and has now expanded to three trees.

Over the years, 175 ornaments have been placed on the trees, honoring loved ones whom have passed on.

Ornaments have also been placed on the tree for those passing on before the year 2001. Anyone wishing to honor someone before this date is encouraged to do so with an ornament in 2012. The committee has had several people involved with decorating the trees through the years.

There is a journal with all the names of loved ones in it listed by the years the ornaments were placed on the tree. Through the years Jenni Cooper and daughter Makenna, have been involved with decorating trees. Dianne Barker has also joined the committee. Everyone works hard with this project. The three of them are looking forward to continuing with the trees for many years.

Stop by Lincoln Savings Bank to view the trees and all of the other beautiful trees created by businesses and organizations. There is a lot of talent within our community.
