Gladbrook tree lighting festivities held Nov. 30

November 19, 2011
Reinbeck Courier

The Gladbrook Commercial Club is planning a holiday promotion for the 15th annual lighting of the Christmas tree on Main Street. Gladbrook's Festival of Trees will be lighted that evening in the City Center and will be on display the month of December.

An evening of seasonal festivities and fellowship will be held Wed., Nov. 30th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. around the Christmas tree.

Santa Claus will make his annual appearance in Gladbrook on Nov. 30th as well. He will be upstairs in the City Center right in the heart of the Festival of Trees passing out the Santa sacks. Santa pictures will also be available for a fee with proceeds going to the Commercial Club. Elves will be helping out Santa if you just want to pick up your Santa sack. Your never too old to get a sack!

The whole upstairs in the City Center will be decorated for the season. You will see a cascading winter water scene, a cruise ship docked on a tropical island and the inside grand staircase, Santa & his reindeer taking off on Christmas eve, a wishing well in the park and much more. Christmas music will be played by Sue Koster.

Everyone is welcome to decorate a tree for the Festival of Trees. You can also decorate a wreath, or bring in a holiday place setting. Sign-up sheets are available at the City Center, and there is no charge. All trees must be decorated by Nov. 28th.

There will be a Farmers Market in the City Center. The vendors will be selling their delicious products as well as taking orders for the holidays.

A beautiful evergreen tree has been donated by Kory and Lori Staff of Gladbrook.

The activities on Nov. 30th will begin at 5:00. Christmas music will be playing to help everyone get into the holiday spirit and several of the businesses will be open for your holiday shopping.

Hot apple cider, kettle corn and hot dogs will be served. Everything is free of charge and sponsored in part by Hometown Foods, Alliant-Energy, Gladbrook Covenant Clinic, Gladbrook Theater, Vogel Family Funeral Homes, area businesses and the Commercial Club.

There will be trolley rides for all ages. The lighted trolley, owned by Dennis Dostal, is pulled by a team of Belgians. The trolley rides are sponsored by Goos Implement and Great Western Bank.

The Christmas program will begin at 6:30 with the illumination of the tree, caroling, and drawing for the adult and kids prizes all outside around the tree. These prizes are donated by the area businesses and the Commercial Club.

All prizes will be at the festivities and will be picked up by the lucky winners that evening, so you must be present to win. The kids' prizes will be sorted according to ages. There will be five age brackets: 0-3, 4-7, 8-11, 12-14, & 15-17.

There will also be a special drawing from the 18 year-old through adult sign-up slips. Six lucky winners will each take home $25 in trade dollars.

Come one and all as we transform Gladbrook's Main Street into a holiday wonderland.
