The Junior High Football teams showed great improvement over the course of the season. This is the first time in my 8 years of Coaching Jr. High Football at Gladbrook-Reinbeck; both the 7TH & 8TH grade teams finished with perfect records. Not only did they put up big numbers on the offensive side of the ball; both the 7th & 8th grade teams gave up only 14 total points and shutout 4 of 6 opponents. As a coaching staff, we focused more on the fundamentals of the game. The players did an excellent job of picking up the Offense, Defense, & Special Teams, giving us the luxury of practicing the skills of blocking and tackling on a more consistent basis. We were rather unfortunate with the weather we had, the teams played every game scheduled, however, lost four practices due to the heat. This was a very enjoyable and talented group of athletes to work with; they not only worked very hard, but did so with much enthusiasm and self discipline. We should expect great things from these young people, both on and off the field.
Opening the holes for the 7th grade this year were: Jed Peterson, Jacob Walters, Jaden McGhee, Spencer Goos, Joseph Pepe, Thomas Mussig, & John Edler. The QB: Joe Smoldt did a great job leading the offense. Eric Knaack, Slade Wager, Parker Bown, & Matt Roeding all ran the ball very well. Joseph Baugus, Deagan Haach, & Tyler Pierce did a great job of both blocking for our backs and catching the ball.
Opening the holes for the 8th grade this year were: Tyler Eiffler, Dalton Schwartz, Hunter Wegner, Carter Fogt, Bryce Clark, Brandon Thran, Drake Terven & Carter Moore. The QB: Jake Schuman did a great job leading the offense. Colton Dinsdale, Cameron Murphy, Eric Stokes, & Kainen Hendricks all ran the ball very well. Brock Bystricky, Carter Murphy, Jake Mohlis, & Joshua Cooley all did a great job of both blocking for our backs and catching the ball.
Alex Tscherter was a great asset to the team; his organizational and managerial skills were valued and much appreciated.
Defensively, each and every one of these guys contributed. Throughout the entire fall, these guys displayed great skills and determination. They had excellent technique and had good knowledge of the game. We were able to run multiple sets; switching in and out of 4 and 5 man fronts, and 3-4 linebacker formations. The defenses dominated each and every one of their opponents.
The coaching staff of Kirk Dinsdale, Jeff Mayes, and Todd Rickert really enjoyed working with each and every one of you. We all wish you great success in the future.
