Fresh-soph Rebel football

October 15, 2011
Mike Bengen

On the tail end of September the Cougars from AGWSR made the trip to the Pit for our final Fresh-Soph game of the year. It was a windy 29th day of the month but that did not stop these two teams from really getting after each other and making it an exciting Thursday night.

There was some serious hitting going on this night. Each group of kids came out on a mission and everyone played extremely hard. We still had a bit of an issue with our ball security as we turned it over four times with two of those times being in the red zone. These kids are young and they will learn from all of this as it cost us another football game as we went down 30-16 to a beatable AGWSR squad. This finishes our year at 0-4. The record is not indicative of how far these kids have come along this year. I think they have figured out that you must value the football and it is all about playing hard. A normal play in football takes four seconds. You then have a minute to rest and get ready for the next play. We have figured out that it takes eleven guys to go hard for four seconds every play, not every other. We have had to play a lot of kids this year due to some injuries and these kids have grown up and that is all you can ask for. We still have a ways to go and there is no doubt that this group will develop into a good football team with some hard work on the field and in the weight room. We all should be excited about the future of Rebel football.

Bennett Petersen and Dustin Dinsdale lead the way offensively with 64 and 87 yards rushing, 18 and 27 yards receiving, a TD, and a PAT run for each of them. Brady Kuehl was 6 of 10 for 64 yards. Braden Trepp lead the defense with 14 stops followed by Joey Linder with 7. Cameron Clark, Luke Holman, and Bryce Ehlers all had 5 tackles each. Bennett, Logan Flamme, Phil Zimmerman, and Logan Phillips 4, Tyler Bovy, Wyatt Swanson, Dustin, Jeff Tscherter, Noah Ohrt, and Austin Lott had 2 stops each. Dirk Thesing and Shye Johnston each had a tackle also for the Rebels.

The Fresh-Soph games are now done for these guys season but you will still be able to see these guys on Mondays in our JV games. Our next action is Monday October 10th at the PIT at 6 p.m. versus the Pirates from Hudson. See you there.
