JV Rebel football

October 15, 2011
Mike Bengen

We made the trip over to Conrad to take on the Comets of BCLUW on Monday October 3rd. We have been in a little bit of a funk here lately and we set out to right the ship on this road trip. The kids were ready to go. We needed to go out and execute and value the football and good things would happen. The coaches felt the kids were prepared but it still has to happen between the lines when the lights are on.

The first quarter was a war between the 30's as neither team could mount much of a threat. The second quarter brought on a perfectly executed screen pass from Brady Kuehl to Dustin Dinsdale that resulted in a 34 yard TD score and a 6-0 lead at the break. The second half was all BCLUW. We were just stymied much of the second half. We turned the ball over, we were not executing on offense, not tackling on defense and had a couple of special team blunders that did us no favors at all. We repeatedly gave the Comets the ball on a short field and they capitalized. We fell to the Comets 20-6 in a game that we certainly thought we could have a different result. We just made too many mistakes and BCLUW took total advantage of them to drop us to 1-4 for the year.

Pete Meyers had a solid game finishing with a team high 10 tackles. Braden Trepp followed with 9 and a fumble recovery. Jake Peters added 9 also, Bennett Petersen 7, Wyatt Swanson and Cameron Clark 5, Dustin 4, Logan Flamme, Blake Kibe, Dirk Thesing, and Luke Holman 2, Tyler Bovy and Joey Linder each had a stop each for our tackle total. Blake also recovered a fumble and Wyatt had two pass interceptions to tell our defensive story. Offensively we finished with a dismal 22 yards rushing and 106 passing with four big turnovers. Dustin caught 3 for 50 yards and our score and Wyatt had 4 grabs for 40 yards. Logan Flamme and Phil Zimmerman also each had a catch for us on offense. Offensively we are working hard to find our niche but we are running out of time. We need to work hard these next couple of weeks and get some things figured out. We must have all team mates on the same page and the sense of urgency has to be there. This is a good group of kids but we need to commit to one another. Push each other everyday in practice and games. Make sure you are as good as the guy next to you. You guys can do this.

Our last game of the year will be at Denver on Monday October 17th at 6 p.m.. Hope to see you on the sidelines.
