JV Rebel football

October 8, 2011
Mike Bengen

Dike New Hartford made the trek south to take on our youthful Rebels in a match-up of two pretty successful programs over the last decade or so. On this somewhat rainy, wet September 26th evening, this would come down to a game of inches. It was a well played game for the most part with a lot of solid play along with some real slobber knocker hits. It was a great example of two teams really getting after each other and each refusing to go down without a fight. We came out on the short end by a 28-14 count but like I said earlier, it is a game of inches. We miss a block or a tackle or we don't run routes hard and bad things happen such as a big loss, a long run or an interception. This was exactly the case on this night. We so often are in the right spots but having just 1 or 2 guys not do their job will continue to cost us. These guys are getting closer but we need 11 guys to make plays, every play. We need to get the motor going and keep it running for all plays not just when it is convenient. There was a 2 score difference in this game and it so easily could have been in our favor. All those small things all add up and become costly. We need to build on the positives and continue to move on to reduce the small errors and we will be in great shape. Turn the frustration into a motivation not a deterrent. We must become a better team and that will take all of these guys to do that. We are in a little funk right now but it is time to check your character and get us all on the same page with the same goals. This is a good group of kids but we have to mature into a better team both mentally and physically. Continue to build on your good effort and attitude and we will turn the corner.

Dustin Dinsdale had a solid ball game finishing with 69 yards rushing, 15 yards receiving, 8 tackles, and a touchdown. Jake Peters added a TD run and a PAT run along with 40 receiving yards and 7 tackles and a fumble recovery. Bennett Petersen chipped in with 31 yards rushing and Brady Kuehl threw for 65 yards on the night. Braden Trepp added 7 tackles, Pete Meyers 6, Cameron Clark Tyler Bovy, and Phil Zimmerman 4, Blake Kibe and Joey Linder 3, Dirk Thesing, Bryce Ehlers, and Wyatt Swanson 2, Noah Ohrt, Luke Holman, and Logan Phillips also all recorded 1 stop to round out our defensive stat sheet. Wyatt and Phil also had an interception apiece.

Our next gridiron action will be Monday October 10 at home in the Pit against the Pirates from Hudson. See you at the 6 p.m. kickoff.
