GCMH awards scholarships

Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation Awards Five $1,000 Scholarships for the 2011-2012 School Year

The Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) Foundation Board is excited to announce the recipients of the 2011 Healthcare Careers Scholarships. Jenna Boyle, Ellen Majewski, Allison Schoolman, and Jessica Thompson were selected as this year's Sara Lee Yoder Memorial Scholarship recipients. Abby Schuller was selected as this year's Don Kliebenstein Memorial Scholarship recipient. Sara Lee Yoder was a long time friend of the hospital and active community member. Don Kliebenstein was a member of the GCMH Foundation Board and member of the Scholarship Selection committee. Each scholarship recipient will receive $1,000 towards their schooling.

Jenna is attending Mercy College of Health Sciences working towards an Associate of Science in Nursing degree. Ellen is attending Des Moines University working towards a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Allison is attending St. Louis University working towards a Master's of Science in Nursing. Jessica is attending Allen College working towards an Associate degree in Radiology. Abby is attending the University of Missouri working towards a degree in Occupational Therapy.

The selection committee received many qualified applicants. Eligibility criteria included:

Student must currently be enrolled in an accredited healthcare career program leading to licensure or a clinical laboratory degree (i.e. Nursing School, Physical Therapy School).

Student must have completed at least six months of their healthcare program.

Student must be enrolled full time (minimum 12 credit hours) for diploma or undergraduate programs and/or at least part time (minimum 6 credit hours) for graduate programs.

Student must reside in or have graduated from a high school in the Grundy County Memorial Hospital service area of Butler, Grundy, Hardin, and Tama counties.

Cumulative Post-Secondary GPA maintained at 2.5 or higher.
