Influenza vaccines

September 3, 2011
Reinbeck Courier

2011-2012 Flu vaccines will be available starting September 1st at Phil's Pharmacy. This years Flu vaccine is made up of 3 different antigens.

Type A/H1N1, A/H3N2 and B/jiangsu. Each year thousands of people die from influenza and even more require hospitalization. By getting a flu vaccine you can protect yourself from influenza and may also avoid spreading it to others. Anyone 6 months of age and older should get the vaccine. It takes up to 2 weeks for protection to develop after the shot. Protection last about a year. Therefore, you should get the vaccine as soon as it becomes available.

The most common side effect is soreness, redness or swelling at the injection site. YOU CAN NOT GET THE FLU FROM THE VACCINE. It's an inactivated (killed) vaccine. People who have gotten sick after a shot would more than likely gotten sick without getting the shot as well.

It is that time of year. We will be running open flu clinics on Wednesdays through the month of September and continue while supplies last.

Walk-in's also are welcome. We bill all types of insurance including Medicare.
