The Barn Quilts of Grundy County is continuing the search for barn owners and sponsors interested in enhancing the agricultural heritage and community/county pride while at the same time attracting visitors from around the state and country. This project has positively affected Grundy County because it is the first of its kind in the state of Iowa. Numerous other Iowa counties have started their own barn quilt projects with Grundy County's assistance and have gained tourism and positive comments from people traveling across the state.
This unique project began in the fall of 2003 in Grundy County and had great results. Over the years we have been able to add 64 quilts to the project. The Barn Quilt Project wants to see more quilt blocks up the fall of 2011 and would like to continue painting during the winter and have more ready to hang in spring of 2012. The Barn Quilt Project is looking for more barns and sponsors around the county to help continue this agriculturally artistic project run strong throughout all of Grundy County.
So why get involved with this project? This project is a "feel-good" idea that has been taken to a new level. Each barn has its own unique distinction and has added more color and excitement to the highways of Grundy County. The Barn Quilts of Grundy County is a statewide and nationally known project and it has taken great pride in the farmland and the communities within the county.
