GCMH in need of volunteers

August 13, 2011
Reinbeck Courier

Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) is in need of volunteers to help in the East J Caf, at welcome desks, with Long Term Care resident activities, and in the Physical Therapy Department.

Volunteers staff the East J Caf from 8:00 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. Two hospital welcome desks are also staffed by volunteers during the week. Physical Therapy Department volunteers work Monday - Friday to keep rooms and equipment clean and ready for patients. Volunteers help with Long Term Care activities like bingo and wheelchair square dancing during the week and on nights and weekends.

"Volunteering at GCMH gives me a rewarding sense of accomplishment," says Ardith Reinking, a GCHM Volunteer. "The staff is always very helpful and friendly. Fulfilling this service has been my pleasure."

Sixty three volunteers from Grundy Center, Holland, Wellsburg, Reinbeck, and Parkersburg currently serve the hospital. The opening of the East J Caf in February has increased the hospital's need for volunteers.

"The hospital offers numerous opportunities for individuals wishing to serve their community. Wherever your passion for service lies, we hope to provide you with a volunteer opportunity that fills your need and brings value to the hospital and our community," says Erin Schildroth.

GCMH Volunteers complete an application and an orientation process. If you are interested in joining the Grundy County Memorial Hospital as a volunteer, please contact GCMH Community Outreach Coordinator, Erin Schildroth, at (319) 824-4147.
