2011 G-R basketball camp

August 6, 2011
Mike Bengen

This years basketball camp ran from Monday, July 25 through Thursday, July 28. The turnout for this years camp was down. There were 14 kids who attended this year. The fact that it was later in the summer may have had an effect on the turnout, but what a great camp it turned out to be.

On Tuesday and Wednesday it was unbelievably hot in the gym but it didn't stop these kids from being very productive in camp. I can't even begin to explain all of the great things that went on this week other than the fact the kids wanted to be there and they worked hard all week. Hopefully they all learned something and had some fun along the way.

A normal night at basketball camp will consist of a lot of emphasis on the fundamentals of the game. Anything from ball handling to shooting drills to passing and pivoting drills happened each night. The kids also had some contests for free throw shooting and Hot Shot. We also spent our fair share of time scrimmaging and working in game situations. Hopefully every kid took something away from this week to make them a better player and competitor. These kids were great all week and were very coachable and worked hard. I think the kids all enjoyed the week.

I appreciate the help from Dan Smoldt, Scott Kiburis, Lauren Bengen, and Emily Snider for their help this week with camp. I really appreciate all the work that they did. It made things run very smoothly. The kids and their parents made this basketball camp of 2011 another success. See all of you next summer at the 2012 G R basketball camp.
