Dear Editor:

I have had the honor and privilege of serving on the G-R School Board for the past 6 years. My term ends this September and it is time to pass the torch onto others for the opportunity to help lead our district into the future.

This September 13th, our district will be holding school board elections. There will be 4 seats up for election. The first day to begin filing nomination papers was July 11th. The last day to file is August 4th, at 5 PM. There is still plenty of time to pick up your nomination papers at our school district's office, but now is the time to act.

Serving on the school board has been rewarding, challenging and a learning process. The rewards are great, you get to be part of the process to better enable our students and our district to succeed. You get to work with professionals in the administration, the staff and other board members who keep a singular focus on our students while working as a team. You also have access to a great deal of information including courses and help from different agencies connected to education that help you grow both personally and professionally.

You will be challenged and will learn from working in the education environment with topics such as school funding and budgeting, enrollment trends, transportations costs and many other topics within the district. There are many challenges left to tackle for the future of the G-R school district. This is an opportunity to be a leader and help shape the future of our district.

Please consider running for the school board, or if you know someone who you think might be a good candidate, please encourage them to consider running. I encourage you to seek more information, by contacting a school administrator, a current or former board member, or go on-line to

Thank you,

Darin P. King
