The Grundy County Master Gardeners and Grundy County Extension invite you to a trough gardening workshop that will be held on Thursday, July 21 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Alumni Building on the Grundy County Fairgrounds in Grundy Center. You will learn what hypertufa is and how to build your own trough garden.
Guest speaker for the workshop is Gary Whittenbaugh. Gary will be demonstrating how to build and care for a trough garden. He will explain what hypertufa is, how it is made and how it is used to construct the trough. His demonstration will also include choosing the best plants, soils, and how to prepare the garden for winter.
Gary is an Iowa Master Gardener and received the Lifetime Master Gardener award in 2005. He has been gardening for over 35 years and his emphasis has been on dwarf, slow growing and unusual conifers as well as trough and rock gardening.
The workshop is free and open to the public and preregistration is not required. Those who attend will be entered into a drawing for the trough garden that Gary will 'bring to life' during the training. For more information, please contact the Grundy County Extension office at 319-824-6979.
