24th annual Grundy Festival

July 9, 2011
Reinbeck Courier

There's so much going on at the 24th Annual Felix Grundy Festival: crafts, gardens, games, music, car and motorcycle show, parades, animals, 5K Walk/Run, and, of course, lots of food!

The first thing Festival-Goers need to do is purchase an "All-You-Can-Ride" activity wristband which is good on the variety of inflatable rides surrounding the Courthouse Square. There are rides for all ages! Pre-sale wristbands for both Friday and Saturday are available prior to the Festival weekend at the Wristbands are good on Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This year's Festival features all kinds of FREE entertainment brought to you by the generous Festival Sponsors. The Courthouse Gazebo features acts on both Friday and Saturday including: the Chad Ralston Family, sponsored by Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home; Higher Power, sponsored by the Kruse Christmas Farm; Al Franzien Juggler, Mick Staebell, Iowa's Favorite Piano Man, sponsored by Frederick Furniture; and Sheltered Reality, sponsored by Black Hill Energy. At the Square you will also find clowns, caricatures, food vendors, karate demonstrations and inductions to the GCHS Sports Hall of Fame. Don't forget to check out the Smiley Face Train, Craft Fair and Saturday's Grand Parade beginning at 4 p.m.!

Back again this year to the Festival is Pianopalooza. The dueling piano band will perform on Friday, July 8th from 8 11 p.m. and is sponsored by Green Belt Bank & Trust and Mid-West Electric Contracting, Inc. The two pianists bring a high energy, request driven, sing-a-long, rock and roll piano show! You definitely don't want to miss this concert! Saturday night brings a Festival favorite back, Loose Neutral. Loose Neutral, sponsored by Titan Machinery, also performing at the Grundy Center Community Center, plays 9 p.m. 1 a.m.

If all this activity isn't enough and you still have some energy, join others in this year's YMCA 5K Walk/Run on Saturday. The 5K begins at 8 a.m. at the GCHS Football Field. Contact Andrew Peters, YMCA Director at (319) 825-6210. If running isn't your thing, take part in the BBQ Contest sponsored by Mid-West Electrical Contracting, Inc. and Farm Bureau. The BBQ Contest begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday with samples sold throughout the morning. First place winners in each category will have the chance to compete at the Farm Bureau's BBQ cook-off at the Iowa State Fair in August. To participate in the contest or to obtain more information, call Mid-West Electric at 319-825-4667.

With all this to do and more, everyone is sure to have a good time at the 24th Annual Felix Grundy Festival. For more information, please contact the Chamber office at 825-3838 or go to to see a full schedule of events.
