The first Outlaw MX Nationals Motocross races were held at Cattle Congress June 4 in Waterloo. Spectators and racers were exposed to a well laid out track, sand section, tricky whoops and a finish line perfectly set up for side-by-side photo finishes. Spectators watched as 32 different classes including bikes and quads raced throughout the afternoon for cash money and trophies.
Cody Winkowitsch, quad racer #851 from Reinbeck, competed in the Quad B class. In his first heat race he finished 1st giving him his choice of gates for the next race. In the second heat race, it was a wheel to wheel race until the last corner of the last lap. Cody finished 2nd after falling back through the whoop section just before the finish line.
Among the competitive racers in the 250A and Open A classes, Bryce Craig #158 also from Reinbeck finished 3rd behind pro riders Kurt McCabe #890 from Marion and Jeremy Kress #504 from Center Point. Running 8 laps, these riders definitely gave their audience a show and proved how competitive the track was. Being a new track in the area, no one really knew what to expect. Each class has two heat races - the first heat race is for gate pick and the second heat race is for final position.
Nate Pierce of Pierce Motorsports LLC has been working hard to bring this event to the Waterloo area. A rider himself, he knows what it means to racers to have a local track to compete at and to know the people building and grooming it are personally striving to make it the best track in the state.
The next Saturday night Outlaw MX National Motocross race at Cattle Congress is July 30. Be sure to come watch the racers compete and see the Best Whip contest.
