Douglas Cooper, MD, is presenting a program that addresses the often asked question: "How do I know when I need a total joint replacement?" The presentation is on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the Conrad Public Library, 114 N. Main Street, Conrad.
The goal of joint replacement surgery is to relieve the pain in the joint caused by damage done to the cartilage. The pain may be so severe, a person will avoid using the joint, weakening the muscles around the joint and making it even more difficult to move the joint. A physical examination, and possibly some laboratory tests and X-rays, will show the extent of damage to the joint. Total joint replacement will be considered if other treatment options will not relieve the pain and disability.
During the program, Dr. Cooper will discuss managing arthritis, knowing when it's time for a joint replacement, consequences of delaying treatment, the joint replacement surgery process, and recovering from joint replacement surgery.
Douglas Cooper, MD, and the GCMH Orthopedics Team will present “How do I Know When I Need a Total Joint Replacement?” at the Conrad Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2011.
Troy Gullett from Wright Medical Group will have actual implants available for attendees. The GCMH Therapy Services Department will present on therapy before and after joint replacement. The GCMH Surgery Team members will be in attendance to answer questions.
Anyone interested in learning more about total joint replacement is invited to attend. If you have questions, call Brenda Schmidt at (319) 824-5085 for more information.
