DIKE - Paige Thompson struck out 11 in a two-hit shutout as the Gladbrook-Reinbeck softball team won its season opener Tuesday, 6-0 over Dike-New Hartford.

Steph Dilly had a double and triple for the Rebels, while Emily Stoakes added two hits with a double and two RBIs. Lauren Bengen also had two hits, and Sonya Beichley finished with three RBIs.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck travels to La Porte City Union Thursday.

GLADBROOK - Class 2A No. 6 Jesup handed Gladbrook-Reinbeck an 11-3 setback in a cross-NICL softball matchup Friday.

Lauren Bengen and Tessa Dinsdale had two hits apiece for the Rebels (2-1).

Only two of the 11 runs against G-R pitcher Paige Thompson were earned. Thompson allowed eight hits and walked five to go with six strikeouts.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck hosts No. 14 West Marshall Tuesday to begin NICL West play.
